The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services ("DFPS") regulates child-care operations in Texas. The DFPS seeks to protect the health, safety, and well-being of children in care by, in part, seeking to reduce the risk of injury, abuse, and communicable disease. It monitors child-care facilities to assure compliance with minimum standards of care, and it can also provide information about the history of specific child-care facilities.
